Although we attended several events in Spring and early Summer, the last few months have been very quiet, largely because of rescue commitments. Thankfully, we have a couple of events lined up, with one of them being the West Midlands Vegan Festival. Click on the banner below to find out more about this exciting event!
This event is fast becoming the must-see 'green' event of the Midlands and is growing in popularity every year. As well as PAWING, several rescues will be represented, including a sanctuary close to our hearts which is suffering terribly due to the loss of a benefactor. Please click here - or click on our 'Urgent' tab on our menu to see how you don't have to wait for the vegan festival to help a sanctuary in dire need!
The continuing downturn in the economy is having a terrible effect on animals as well as people. Rescues are more often than not, full to bursting with pets who have been rendered homeless due to their family losing jobs - or even their homes, and many of these animals face being euthanased if a new home cannot be found. Sadly, some owners don't even bother to take their unwanted pets to a shelter, electing instead to simply dump or abandon the animal. PAWING has three such cases of abandoned
animals in our care - two rabbits whom we rescued from the street and one female cat. The cat's owner was doubly callous in her abandonment because they did not even bother to have her neutered. Subsequently, whilst still only a baby herself, she became pregnant. It is at this point that PAWING pays tribute to the residents of nearby homes because without them, this little homeless cat would have been in even direr straits than she already was. Thanks to these lovely people, she was given food (some of it quite 'posh' food too!), shelter from the worst of the elements and most importantly, love. With none of the residents actually able to home her however, and all of the rescues they approached already being too full to take her in, she was on borrowed time - not least because the folks who gave her most of the care she needed were moving house in a matter of days. PAWING is little different to the other rescues inasmuch as - we are absolutely heaving with animals, but when we heard about how desperate her situation was, we stepped in within days of her having given birth to two kittens. Missy, as she was
affectionately named by one of the residents, is a sweet-natured 'tuxedo kitty' and in spite of her youth, she has proved to be an excellent mom to Dennis and Mitzy. The kittens are now 8 weeks old and will soon be in need of homes - and with that in mind, we are soon to be launching our new page - The Rehoming Hub. Designed to advertise available animals who need homes, the aims of the page will be simple - find the right home for the right animal. Initially it will only contain animals available through PAWING, but in due course we will be inviting other rescues (not individuals - sorry!) to advertise their animals through us too - free of charge. Links to our rehoming policy, adoption questionnaires and important information will be added as the page progresses, so please bear with us as we put it all together!

delighted to witness this quiet, withdrawn little chicken blossom into a cheeky and happy little sweetheart. Her progress was recorded on facebook, culminating in an uplifting video of her finally walking for the first time. Grace enjoyed several weeks of good health and happiness before suffering a fatal stroke, which was as unexpected as it was heartbreaking. PAWING would like to pay tribute to our wonderful vet, our lovely band of dedicated followers and all who passed on their kind condolences.
In the summer we took in a little hen who was suffering from dreadful scaly leg mite. It was so advanced that she was unable to walk and therefore could not get to the feeder. She was also infested with feather mites and had suffered bullying from the other hens and we were left in no doubt that, had she not been spotted and rescued by a kind-hearted individual, Grace would not have survived her ordeal. After a vet visit and an extensive programme of care, we were
making a donation towards our animal rescue work today - thank you!
PAWING provides shelter, care and veterinary treatment for a small amount of unwanted/mistreated animals, and we also support any small charity that exists to directly and legally help animals and will work to raise funds not only for our own rescued creatures, but also for sanctuaries, groups and individuals by promoting appeals on our website. PAWING will help campaigns to help any animal in need by adding links to ongoing requests for help. PAWING supports vegan ethics and strives to promote the benefits of a vegan lifestyle. We depend entirely upon donations from the public.
