Animal rescue is not a 'job' with fixed hours or convenient timing - if only! This was very evident recently when, as we were preparing to celebrate the birthday of a very close friend, we found ourselves dashing around on not one - but two cockerel rehomes!
The first cockerel came to us in quite bizarre circumstances when we visited a local feed store and were asked by the staff if we could take a cockerel who had been dropped off to them! Peering into the cardboard box he was sat in, we could see a little fella who appeared to be a rather peeved little Pekin! When we got back and released him from the box we were greeted by a rather flighty little fella who was prepared to take any of us on! The fact that he had a twisted back (congenital deformity?) didn't appear to affect him in any way and it seems he thoroughly enjoyed his overnight stop with us.
In early January, we were asked to help a lady who was overrun with cats. Further enquiries revealed that she lived in a small maisonnette and had 13 cats of different sexes - but only one of them was neutered. Her landlord had complained and the RSPCA and the police had become involved. It was agreed that she could keep three, but if homes could not be found for the remaining ten cats, they would be removed - and the risk of euthanasia was (and still is) high. PAWING swung into action and ran an urgent appeal on our Facebook page. Two fabulous homes were subsequently found for four of the cats - but we are still desperate for homes (Midlands area preferred) for the remaining six cats.
The next day saw us collecting, probably the largest cockerel we have ever seen! Despite his size, he was much easier to catch than the little fella, and he was soon settling down in our biggest crate, ready for transportation the next day. Within a matter of days, both cockerels went to new homes - much to the delight of our resident disabled hen, Dotty, who wanted to take them both on!
Little monster!
Please have a look at their photo's and description and do get in touch with us at adoptions@pawing.org.uk if you can help. Veterinary care is estimated at around a minimum of £50.00 per cat, which PAWING is funding - but we need your help. Can you possibly help with a donation towards the care of these cats? No amount is too small! If you can, please consider sending a cheque, made payable to PAWING, to P.O. BOX 14788, BIRMINGHAM B13 3GW. Thank you.
can you help any of the others?
PAWING can not help animals in need without public support. Please consider making a donation towards our animal rescue work today - thank you!
PAWING provides shelter, care and veterinary treatment for a small amount of unwanted/mistreated animals, and we also support any small charity that exists to directly and legally help animals and will work to raise funds not only for our own rescued creatures, but also for sanctuaries, groups and individuals by promoting appeals on our website. PAWING will help campaigns to help any animal in need by adding links to ongoing requests for help. PAWING supports vegan ethics and strives to promote the benefits of a vegan lifestyle. We depend entirely upon donations from the public.
