Another Great Vegan Festival!
On Saturday October 29th we held a stall at the annual West Midlands Vegan Festival. We had a wonderful response, with the stars of the show, Trevor the Turkey (a Christmas toy that sings 'Jingle Bells'!) and his sidekick, Pawing's very own Mark, helping to raise over £50.00 towards our 'Turkey Run' - which is our transport of 'Christmas' turkeys rescued from slaughter. In total, our stall raised just over £100 to help the animals - thank you so much to all who visited us and donated
towards our work. As well as selling items to raise funds, we were called upon at very short notice to conduct a talk about the egg industry. Titled: The Egg Industry - Victims and Survivors, our talk looked at the lives of the millions of chickens who make up the global egg industry and the lucky few who are saved. Our first ever talk, it was received very well by the attendees who, although shocked at many of the issues raised, loved the random chicken facts that they were handed to read out to all! We also met even more fabulous people and causes and although we can't name them all, we have a special shout out to the wonderful Cathy, who was invaluable , both on our stall and at the talk, our wonderful 'press photographer', Ronnie; Action For Greyhounds, the stall we shared with, and finally the couple (sorry - we never got your names!) who came to the stall and told us all about SCAD, an amazing charity they volunteer for in Thailand. SCAD promotes animal welfare in an often difficult environment by helping stray cats and dogs and running neuter programmes. When we returned to PAWING HQ and checked our emails and Facebook pages we were overwhelmed with new friend requests from likeminded individuals and messages of support - thank you all! The upcoming turkey run generated a lot of interest - especially when we found out from the rescue that more turkeys were due to become available - please keep your eye on our Facebook page for any updates and if you can offer a home to ANY animal, please do get in touch. We also had a lovely message from Forget-Me-Not-Animal-Sanctuary, the aims of which absolutely match ours - it is a vegan charity that helps animals!
